Brass Forging
Forging is the process of shaping metals with the help of plastic deformation and compressive force. Brass Forging is the process of forging the Brass metal. During forging, the brass grain flow changes into the shape of that part. This makes the Brass more stronger than the cast and machined Brass parts. Brass Forging is done with many number of processes.
Nowadays industries, used two types of Brass Forging methods, open die forging and closed die forging. In the open die forging method the Brass is free to move and in the closed die forging method the Brass metal is not allowed to move freely. The method of closed die forging is used to produce the products like wrenches etc., since this method is well suited for mass production. On the other hand, open die forging is used to produce the products like custom work etc., since this method is well suited for lower production.
Closed die Brass Forging is relatively costly as compared to the process of Casting, but is preferred because it results in extremely stronger products. The Brass forging process becomes more and more cheaper, with the increase in the volumes. This is the reason that the Brass forgings products are used in automobile industries.
There also exists other types of Brass Forging methods like Coal/coke/charcoal forging, gas forging, drop forging etc. In the Coal/coke/charcoal forging method, the Brass metal is heated with the industrial coke, charcoal and/or coal, as the fuel. Over the generations, the basic design of the forge used in this method, has remained unchanged, irrespective to the circumstances. The main three factors, that has to be given good care in this method are, volume of air, volume of fuel and shape of the fire.
In the Gas forging method, the metal is heated by the propane andor natural gas. The forges used in the Gas forging method, are of different sizes and designs. For any beginner, this method is the perfect choice, as it is very easy to use. The disadvantage of the gas forging method is that, it makes very difficult to heat a small part of a metal. The class of the products, produced by the method of Hydraulic press forge, is very high as compared to that, produced by the Drop forging method. Hydraulic press forging method has the negative point, that it requires very high energy and extended time.
